Featured Project: AARP Membership
AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) is the nation's largest nonprofit membership organization for people over age 50.
My Role: Usability Analyst
AARP was interested in increasing traffic to the membership area of AARP.org. To meet this goal, I developed and moderated a user research study focusing on better promoting membership benefits online and improving personalized content to existing members.
Participants were interviewed in a usability lab setting, where AARP designers and program managers could directly observe the feedback. The study included:
- Competitive Analysis: Membership sites from other organizations serving the same target audience were evaluated by participants.
- Card Sorting: Participants sorted AARP member benefits into different categories based on various criteria (awareness, importance, etc.)
- Prototype Review: Interactive wireframes highlighting different options for a new membership area of AARP.org were shown to participants.
Deliverables*:
- Usability Test Discussion Guide
- Participant Quotes: Quick, memorable sound-bites that are easy to refer back to and keep the project team focused on user needs.
- Strategic Usability Report: Long term strategic recommendations based on user feedback.
