Morgan Stanley - ClientServ

ClientServ allows Morgan Stanley customers to view account information, check status of transactions and get current market information online.

Project Goals:

  • Consolidate and relabel navigation in order to simplify the site and speed information retrieval.
  • Eliminate steps to finding account and transaction information.
  • Create a consistent look and feel with other Morgan Stanley websites.

Target Audience: High net worth individuals with Morgan Stanley accounts.

Key Enhancements:

  • Created a new site map, eliminating unecessary levels and regrouping site elements according to user needs rather than the Morgan Stanley corporate structure.
  • Created a "dashboard" for customers, featuring their account information and news from Morgan Stanley.


Starwood Preferred Guest

The loyalty program website for Starwood Hotels and Resorts (including St. Regis®, The Luxury Collection®, Sheraton®, Westin®, W® and Four Points® by Sheraton)

Project Goals:

  • Reduce the overall page weight and load time of the site.
  • Reduce the number of steps required to book a room for repeat customers.
  • Increase the awareness of special offers and promotions.
  • Reduce the call center volume for account information and password retrieval.

Target Audience: Business travelers and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Gold and Platinum level members.

Key Enhancements:

  • Important member tasks and information including reservation details, account activity and starpoint award search were brought to the home page for immediate access.
  • Developed "My Favorites" functionality allowing SPG members to save favorite hotels to their profile and check availability and rates for specific hotels without doing a location search.
  • Created a robust special offers search engine, allowing users to find offers based on date, location, brand, interest, or offer type.
  • Reduced the call center volume by streamlining the enrollment, account set-up, and password retrieval process.

Starwood Meetings and Events

Corporate meeting and special event information website for Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Project Goals: Provide one online source for all Starwood meeting and event information.

Target Audience: Large meeting and event planners.

Key Enhancements:

  • Combined three separate Starwood sites about Starwood meeting facilities, services and the frequent stay program into one site, and added FAQs and informational content to address common questions about Starwood meeting and event offerings.
  • A meeting specific search results page was added, highlighting the total number of guest rooms, total meeting space and largest meeting room for each hotel.
  • A new special offers section brought together three separate special offer landing pages, simplifying the promotion search for meeting planners and update process for the marketing team.

Starwood Meetings in a Moment

An industry leading website allowing customers to book a meeting room online.

Project Goals: Provide a web-based process for a meeting planner to view availability, obtain pricing and book a conference room for a small, single day meeting.

Target Audience: Small meeting planners.

Key Enhancements:

  • Developed the industry's first immediate, online booking tool for small meetings; eliminating the standard time and resource intensive request for proposal process.
  • Enabled audio/visual and food and beverage services to be reserved online along with the meeting space.
  • Provided contextual help at all points of the booking process to address meeting planner concerns about the reliability of booking small meetings online.

Polka Dot Cake Studio

Polka Dot Cake Studio is a specialty bakery located in New York City.

Project Goals:

  • Provide information about special order options and pricing to reduce common calls to bakery.
  • Simplify the look and feel of the site and focus attention on specialty cakes.

Target Audience: Special event planners in New York City

Key Enhancements:

  • All standard cakes are prominently featured throughout the site, clarifying the bakery's offerings
  • Cake flavors and pricing were presented in a clear table format along with ordering requirements and contact details.
  • A portfolio of cake images was added to give customers a better sense of the bakery's experience and provide ideas for their own events.


American Cancer Society

The E-commerce bookstore of the American Cancer Society website was redesigned to include more product information and reduce the steps to complete the purchase process.

Texas Instruments
August 2003

Master students from the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University worked with Texas Instruments to evaluate their suite of educational software. Usability tests were conducted with high school teachers throughout America and the results drove the development of software guidelines and a redesign of Texas Instrument's most popular software program, TI Connect.

Carnegie Mellon University - Language Technologies Institute

The Language Technologies Institute is developing a prototype system for cross-lingual information organization and access for the medical domain. Contextual inquiry and usability testing were done on the existing prototype search engine interface to identify design opportunities. Cultural, workflow and artifact models were also developed to document the medical researcher's physical work environment in order to effectively address their research needs online.

Information Architecture Newsletter

While working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts I created the information architecture newsletter, a monthly e-mail sent to all Starwood employees highlighting the latest research in marketing, branding, technology and design. The newsletter is intended to share web design best practices and create awareness about the role of an Information Architect at Starwood.
